We are very grateful to be the recipient of the generous expertise of these esteemed experts in their fields.
Glenn is one of the pioneers of sustainability and the environmental movement, with 30+ years in the field. Prior to establishing ESG Matters in Hong Kong and Copenhagen, Glenn held senior management positions with the Mass Transit Railway Corporation (MTRC) Ltd. in Hong Kong for 22+ years, establishing the sustainability function across three divisions. As part of this, Glenn collaborated in working groups on the development of major sustainability guidelines and standards, including the Hong Kong and Singapore Exchanges on their ESG Reporting and Guidelines.
He issued China’s first Sustainability Report and founded the Sustainable Development Commission for the International Association of Public Transport (UITP.) That included sustainability reporting for providers, authorities, and manufacturers and the sector’s climate change policy. As part of an invited international group of experts, he assisted in a new sustainable cities programme for China following the Great Sichuan Earthquake in 2008.
Working with AccountAbility (AA,) he helped compose drafts of AA1000AS, applying AA standards to stakeholder engagement throughout businesses and sustainability reporting. He is currently a Standards Board Member for AA1000.
Glenn supported GRI Focal Point in China, and currently lectures at European universities on sustainability issues and risk management. He consults internationally on ESG Reporting, its implementation and scenario planning in relation to the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures, (TCFD,) and assists organizational development of ESG with the UN SDGs framework.
Glenn holds a Ph.D. in Aerospace Sciences from Stanford University, is a Fellow and member of several international and local professional bodies and a Fulbright Fellow. He has also published a number of technical papers in acoustics, vibration, railway design, cochlear mechanics, sustainability, and strategic management. He invented a mineral-wool free sound absorbent for which he received the Danish Working Environment Prize. Glenn is the Honorary Chair of the Sustainable Development Commission and continues his involvement in developing climate change treatments.
Richard Johnston is Founder and Corporate Advisor of RJ Business Strategies, an international consultancy specializing in startups. He has 20+ years of extensive startup consulting expertise.
He has founded four successful startups – Energy Storage Solutions, Inc., Johnston & Leigh, Inc., RJ Capital Strategies, LLC, and RJ Business Strategies, LLC.
As the Co-Founder & COO of Energy Storage Solutions, Inc., a start-up green energy company, Richard authored three successful grant proposals to New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) for $850,000 for a green energy storage system.
As Manager of the Data Networks branch of the U.S. Department of State, he successfully planned and implemented network upgrades for a worldwide telecommunication network. This involved complex network planning, on-site liaising, and troubleshooting with foreign governments. This included Turkey, Germany, and Belgium, working at foreign facilities, U.S. consulates, and embassies.
Adding to his international experience, Richard was an onsite consulting engineer performing installation, testing, training, and tech support for the U.S. Navy surveillance system at Adak, Alaska in the Aleutian Islands.
Working with startups, small and mid-sized businesses, Rich specializes in operational and corporate development. This includes business planning, business plan preparation, client development and engagement, project management, budgeting, resource planning, financial forecasts, marketing plans, subcontractor management, grant preparation, investor relations, pitch decks, teambuilding, and app development. Richard enjoys and is especially adept at diagnosing and solving complex business and technical problems. His expertise also includes developing coaching and mentoring clients and employees.
Rich holds an MBA in Engineering Management from George Washington University, and a BSEE in Electrical Engineering from NYU- Polytechnic School of Engineering.
